Called — “You are God’s chosen treasure — priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience His marvelous light, and now He claims you as His very own. He did this so that you would broadcast His glorious wonders throughout the world.” (1 Peter 2:9, The Passion Translation)

In our western religious culture, how many of leaders are in their positions as a vocation rather than a calling? Paul tells us we are all chosen, but I would ask again how many are really called by God rather than being appointed or elected by man for these positions of service?

Charles Spurgeon wrote in March of 1857, “There are the two things which you and I are to prove to be sure for ourselves—whether we are called and whether we are elected. And oh, dear friends, this is a matter about which you and I should be very anxious.” This is a large question that is really hard to answer.

We just had a national presidential election and here where I live, we also had a local governmental election. How many of our leaders are actually called by the Lord to be in these positions? How many are in it for themselves?

A lot of churches have similar processes for choosing their teachers and leaders. However, these positions used to be more about a calling than a job. Somehow we have lost the value of being chosen to complete a task for Daddy God, Jesus and Holy Spirit.

Let’s re-evaluate both what we are doing and who we are following!

Be a Blessing,

Sir Gregory
