Proverb (curse)

Proverb (curse) — “YAHWEH spoke to me again, saying, “Why do you keep repeating this proverb in the land of Israel: “The parents have eaten sour grapes, but the children are the ones with the sour taste in their mouths?” As I, Lord YAHWEH, live, you will have no reason to repeat this proverb in Israel.” (Ezekiel 18:1-3, The Passion Translation)

This whole chapter is very enlightening. We could easily change the word proverb here to curse. Daddy God was doing away with the generational curse we find in Exodus 34:7b, “visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

If we read on in Ezekiel 18:20, “It is the one who sins who will die. A child is not to bear his father’s guilt nor a father his child’s guilt. Good people will be credited for their own righteousness and the wicked with his own wickedness.” We have kept a law that not only did Daddy God do away with but Jesus paid for it with His life. Just because a father is a drunk or a thief, that doesn’t mean the child has to be. The propensity to be might be there, but it’s not a given.

Let us repent of this and nullify this proverbial curse in our generations to come.

Be a Blessing, Sir Gregory
