Thorn, 2 Cor. 12:8-9(The Mirror Bible), “ I almost believed this lie and even implored the Lord three times to remove the thorn from my flesh. Finally it dawned on me that grace is God’s language; He doesn’t speak “thorn-langauge”. He said to me, “My grace elevates you, to be fully content.” And now, instead of being overwhelmed with a sense of my own weakness, He overwhelms me with an awareness of His strength. Oh what bliss to rejoice in the fact that in the midst of my frailties I encounter the dynamic of the grace of God to be my habitation.”
We often hear, and even sing songs, that declare we are weak but He is strong. In our weakness, we are made strong. But do we really understand our weakness? Paul had a weakness that he called his thorn. Many try to guess what that thorn was, but we really don’t know. After pleading with Daddy God to remove it, he was told “My grace if sufficient for you”. Not sure we have a clear grasp of that grace either. But Paul did come to the conclusion in it that the Trinity doesn’t speak thorn-language — only our adversary speaks that.
We can now have a better understanding of Romans 8:28, when it says, “He works all things together for our good”(paraphrased). Our thorn might just be the grace grower we need to understand Daddy God better!
Be a Blessing, Sir Gregory
