Grumbling — “Many dishonest tax collectors and other notorious sinners often gathered around to listen as Jesus taught the people. This raised concerns among the Jewish religious leaders and experts of the law. Indignant, they grumbled and complained, saying, “Look at how this Man associates with all these notorious sinners and welcomes them all to come to Him!” In response, Jesus gave them this illustration:” (Luke 15:1-3, The Passion Translation)

Jesus actually gave three parables from this incident: the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son.  The ones who were thought to be the leaders of the people really had no clue of who Jesus was! Jesus came for the broken, the lost, the sick. In their grumbling and complaining, they couldn’t understand what their role in life was supposed to be! Instead of grumbling, they could’ve helped the ones who had lost their way — and those who didn’t even know there was a way to Yahweh.

I wonder is the church much different today? Let’s trade our grumbling for mercy and grace. Let’s gather those who need to find their way home into the arms and lap of Daddy God, Jesus and Holy Spirit.
